Here Is Why Aisha Buhari Is Trending Online Today
The wife of the President, Mrs Aisha Buhari, has demanded that a probe be launched into how the budget for the State House Medical Centre (SHMC) is utilised.
This comes after Mrs Buhari visited the centre only to be confronted with a lack of facilities and requisite personnel.
Speaking at the opening of a two-day Stakeholders meeting on RMNCAH+N – Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, Adolescent Health and Nutrition in Abuja, Mrs Buhari decried the “lack of facilities”, including syringes, at the centre despite the huge budgetary allocation and ongoing construction there.
According to her, monies budgeted for the hospital must be accounted for to prevent a catastrophe at the clinic, Channels writes.
“Few weeks ago I was sick as well, they advised me to take the first flight out to London I refused to go. I said I must be treated in Nigeria because there is a budget for an assigned clinic to take care of us.
“If the budget is N100 million, we need to know how the budget is spent. Along the line I insisted they call Aso Clinic to find out if the X-tray machine is working, They said it is not working. They didn’t know I am the one that was supposed to be in that hospital at that very time,” she said.
Patients at the State House Medical Centre were last week groaning over the deplorable state of facilities there.
Mrs Buhari’s call for a probe comes a few weeks after her daughter Zahra called out the clinic for diverting its budgetary allocation, adding that the centre did not have simple drugs.
In the wake of the complaints, the Permanent Secretary of the State House, Mr Jalal Arabi, promised that the SHMC would be repositioned for better service delivery.
