Jigawa Teacher Burns Company Bus, Goods Over N500 Promo Prize
The Jigawa state command of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) on Tuesday announced the arrest of a 20-year-old teacher for allegedly burning a Volkswagen bus belonging to a company in the Dutse local government area of the state.
The 20-year-old junior secondary school teacher was said to have procured petrol and matches to burn a bus belonging to a skin care company, Skin Defence, on Monday.
Trouble started when the mother of the suspect participated in a promotion sale organised by the company at the Kwaimawa village for its medicated soap line.
The suspect’s mother was selected as one of the winners during the promotion exercise and was given a bottle of lotion. She thereafter expressed her desire to exchange the lotion for the sum of N500 or a wrapper, but the company’s representatives refused.
Jigawa state police spokesman, Jinjiri Abdu, said, “After the bus moved to another place, the suspect went and brought petrol and matches which he allegedly used to set the bus ablaze.
“And there were items worth N1m that got burnt in the bus, and both the bus and items were valued at N1.5m,” the police spokesman added.
reports that the state police command has launched an investigation into the incident.
It is expected that the police will be looking into the easy resort to violence by the Jigawa teacher and also ascertain if the Jigawa teacher acted alone.
