Former Governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido

The immediate past Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido, was on Sunday arrested by the police over an allegation that he made inciting and inflammatory remarks capable of threatening the peace of the state.

Lamido was arrested at his Kano residence by police officers from Zone I, Kano.

On arrival at Zone 1, BUK Road, Kano, Lamido was allegedly shown the DVD of the purported inciting recording which he allegedly made to his Peoples Democratic Party supporters in Jigawa, in April 2017.

Lamido would be detained until Tuesday due to May Day celebration when he would be taken to Dutse, where he would be arraigned for prosecution.

Also, it was gathered that the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, had ordered about 120 armed police officers to beef up security at the zone, pending when Lamido would be taken to Jigawa State for his arraignment and prosecution.

 During the prosecution, the police were expected to establish their case against him in the alleged offence.

Some youths were arrested and charged to court for disturbance of public peace in Jigawa after Lamido’s inciting remarks.

The Public Relations Officer, Zone 1, Sambo Sokoto, confirmed Lamido’s arrest.
