An apparent plot by suspected militants to blow up Agip Oil facilities in Kwale, Ndokwa West Local Government Area of Delta State was uncovered by security operatives when 10 high intensity Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) were recovered at the company premises.
The vandals had planted the home made dynamites at different spots of the Agip facility ready to detonate before residents became suspicious of strange movements in the area and reported to the police.
Operatives of the Anti-Bomb unit of the state police command immediately stormed the area and recovered and diffused the high calibre IEDs.
The recovered exhibits which were paraded before journalists in Asaba included two 4.1 litres in container, eight 5.1 litres in container, four strands of cortex, two electric detonators and three non-electric detonators.
He said at the time detectives stormed the area, the hoodlums fled, hence no arrest was made.
Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Zanna Ibrahim had told newsmen that preliminary investigation revealed that the IEDs were to be utilised against Agip facilities, adding that the matter was still under investigation.
