Men of the Nigerian Army, yesterday, gunned down another suicide bomber in Miduguri, Borno.
The insurgent was gunned down while attempting to gain access to the camp for internally displaced persons (IDPs) at Customs House, along Gamboru Ngala Road, in the state capital.
According to a member of the Civilian JTF and one of the sentries at the camp, Umar Saleh,the suicide bomber attempted to penetrate the camp, when the soldiers on ground accosted and gunned him down, before he detonated the explosive device strapped on him.
Confirming the incident to LEADERSHIP Sunday, the Borno State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Victor Isuku said the suicide bomber refused to stop for a routine check.
“At about 2359hrs yesterday, a suicide bomber trying to infiltrate Customs House IDPs’ camp along Gamboru Ngala Road was intercepted and gunned down by troops when he refused to stop for a routine check.
“ The improvised explosive device (IED ) strapped to his body exploded killing only him. There was no other casualty,” said Isuku.
The spokesman of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in the North-east, Ibrahim Abdulkadir, confirmed that the mangled body of the suicide bomber had been evacuated.
